Rio Gold  - New for 2008

The Ultimate Fly Line.  With a revolutionary design that allows for incredible long stability at distance, a unique taper that allows a rod to load at close range and a positive front taper that delivers perfect presentation of flies between #22 and #2, the Rio Gold is the ultimate all round, floating line for freshwater fly fishing.  The long back taper is excellent for mending and for roll and spey casting and the running line and head are different colors, making it easy to find the line's perfect loading point.  The line features Rio's new XS Technology for an extraordinarily slick, dirt-repelling coating, in addition to Rio's AgentX and Super Floatation Technology that ensure the tip and the running line will float high.  A welded loop on the front end of the fly line facilitates changing leaders although this can be cut off without compromising the taper.

Rio Selective Trout

This unique fly line is designed specifically for selective trout fishing in all types of weather conditions. The Selective trout fly line is designed for discerning anglers and technical fishing conditions. The weight forward lines offer a long front taper for delicate presentations and an extended rear taper for effortless roll casting. This line is extra supple for delicate presentations and memory free in winter, super slick self lubricating coating on a multifilament core. Length is 90'.

Weights: WF3F-WF7F

Color: Camo Green

Rio Grand Fly Line

Rio's latest line was built specifically to handle the new fast-action fly rods of today.  This line can load the road quickly, yet still make delicate presentations.  The tip floats extremely high due to Rio's new "Slick Shooter" process, yet gives a smooth light delivery of even the smallest dry fly.  The weight forward taper features a slightly heavier load to activate the faster modern fly rod.  The rear taper is long enough for roll casting.  This is the perfect line for wet or dry fly fishing.  Rio has included a welded loop on the front end of the line to facilitate changing leaders.

Rio Nymph Line

Use the RIO Nymph line for nymph fishing under all fishing conditions, whether indicator, high stick or dead drift nymphing and terrestrials. Rated number one by Western professional guides for deep nymphing using strike indicators and long drag free drifts. The taper design, with both a long back taper and body for easy roll casting, mending and fly control, enhances casting weighted nymphs, indicators and big air-resistant flies.
RIO’s new high floatation technology creates a super high floating tip that stays up under normal conditions. This high visibility tip is a built-in strike indicator which can be cut off without affecting the casting performance. The Nymph line has welded loops on both ends for easy rigging and fast leader changes. This line can be used with many fly fishing techniques, such as:
• Drifting nymphs and egg patterns with indicators when fishing for steelhead and salmon; casting terrestrials and other big bugs, hoppers, stoneflies or streamers; upstream nymphing with bead heads and other weighted flies, as well as high stick nymphing;
• New Zealand’s South Island, where the angler has to cast into the strong downstream NW Canterbury winds of 30 mph (50 kph) and still get a good turnover;
• NZ’s Tongariro nymph technique, where the angler overhead or roll casts long distances with indicators and flies;
• Czech nymphing where the highly visible tip makes the slightest “stop” of the line very noticeable to the angler.

WF4F - WF9F
Color: Lt Green or Camo (both with Fluoroescent Orange tip)

WindCutter II Fly Line

This taper was designed especially for western rivers where delicate presentations are required in windy conditions. Accurate casts can be made with the WindCutter II with just the tip of the rod for a very tight loop; for windy conditions or when distance is needed, the thick belly will load the butt section of modern graphite rods.
The Super Floatation Tip, with a welded loop, acts as an indicator to detect subtle takes when fishing emergers subsurface.
It also facilitates quick leader changes. The AgentX coating delivers smooth casts in coldwater fishing conditions, and the two-colored line shows exactly the loading point of the head.

WF3F - WF10F Color: Yellow/Sage
Length:
WF3F – WF5F | Length: 90 ft (27.4 m); WF6F – WF8F | Length: 100 ft (30.5 m) |

AquaLux Lake Line

A must-have line for the serious lake angler. Castability has always been a problem with clear intermediate sinking lines because there are no lubricants in the coating and the lines drag through the guides. RIO has solved the problem by incorporating proprietary lubricants into the running line coating that make the line slick. The running line is translucent green while the head is completely clear. With an intermediate sinking rate of 1.5 – 2.0 inches per second (3.7 cm/s), the line is perfect for fishing subsurface and shallow shore lines. Ideal when stealth is required for wary, selective fish. Made on a low memory supple monofilament core with a coldwater coating and welded loop on the front end.

WF3I - WF9I
Length: 100 ft (30.5 m)
Color: Clear AquaLux head w/green tint running line

Steelhead & Atlantic Salmon Line

Steelhead & Atlantic Salmon Fly Line Tapered weight forward floating design made for the specific casting demands of steelhead and Atlantic salmon fly fishing-also a fantastic nymphing line with a strike indicator. The long belly and back taper were developed for roll or overhead casting and single-handed spey casting. A bullet front taper helps deliver bombers and other large flies. This line works well with a greaseline or waking fly technique. RIO's state-of-the-art computer-driven fly line technology allows us to taper the rear belly with slightly more diameter. This creates weight in order to load the rod butt for casting performance and durability in this critical area. Coldwater coating on a multifilament core.

WF5F - WF10F
Length: 110 ft (33.5 m)

Clouser Coldwater Line

Casting heavy or wind-resistant flies has always been a challenge, even for good caters. RIO collaborated with Bob Clouser, famed fly tyer, guide, instructor and conservationist, best know for inventing the Clouser Minnow, one of the most versatile flies for both fresh and saltwater. The Clouser line, with a unique reverse compound taper and a bullet front taper, turns over heavy flies into the wind without effort and smoothly transfers energy to prevent the characteristic "kick" with heavily weighted flies. This line is a great steelhead line.

StreamerTip Fly Line

A floating line with a 9.5 ft clear intermediate tip, this is an excellent line for fishing streamers in fall as well as for nymph and chironomid fishing on lakes. The clear tip sinks at  1.5 – 2 ips, perfect for just under the surface or on windy days where a floating line will lose contact with the fly. Built on a Clouser taper it’s fantastic for casting big streamers or teams of flies and for managing wind. The single-strand Powerflex core with coldwater coating provides high line speed for maximum distance and the highest casting performance. Also includes the RIO welded loop on the front end for easy rigging.

RIOMax 30 Ft Shooting Heads

With the RIO 30 Ft Shooting Heads, you can cast long distances with ease. Shooting head taper designs have not changed in many years, and compared to traditional shooting heads, these heads have a longer flight time, which translates into more distance. The RIOMax Shooting Heads weight and unique taper design properly load the rod for optimum performance. The unique front loaded taper design stabilizes the head in the air and prevents the characteristic “dumping” at the end of the cast (typical of traditional shooting heads). The weight of the heads is slightly more than two line weights heavier than the AFTMA standard weight so there is no need to upsize the heads to properly load fast action rods.
Labeled in grain weight, as well as recommended rod rating. Whether for saltwater, anadromous species or trout, the RIOMax shooting heads will improve your distance casting.

Available in floating, intermediate, Type 3, Type 6 and Type 8 densities.
Sizes: ST6 – ST12 Length: 30 ft (9.1 m)

Price:  $34.95

T-14™ Shooting Head

To adapt shooting heads and sink tips for existing fishing conditions, the angler can cut the T-14 to length. Available in 30 ft (9 m) coil packs with three braided loops included.

        The refractive index (1.42) of Fluoroflex Plus in water (1.33)

        compared to nylon (1.62) makes it almost invisible to fish.

        Fluoroflex Plus, with a density of 1.72 (compared to nylon of 1.15),

        sinks quicker and gets below the surface tension for more effective

        dry fly, nymph and wet fly fishing. 7x - 0.015 inches. 30 yds (27.5 m).
